The Diva challenged us to trace an object to create a new and interesting string. Her examples included game board pieces and small trinkets her kids got in their Easter baskets. I looked around and saw my way-cool letter openers that friends of ours bought from an artisan on a trip to Nigeria. Wanting to help spur the local economy, our friends bought lots of these carved wooden pieces and I ended up with three of them -- two men and a woman.
I planned to merely trace the "business end" of one of the letter openers and let that serve as my string. But then that lovely lady said "Tangle me! Tangle me!" So I checked some Nigerian fashion websites for some inspiration. The lady in blue is a Nigerian bride and the pink fabric was in a dress catalog.
