The "That's New to Me" challenge this week is to use a pattern you've not used before that starts with the letter D. Since D is a recent repeat, we are also to incorporate a pattern by Sandy Hunter.
I used two new to me patterns
Decostar by Neil Burley and
Droplets by Suzanne McNeill.
You may remember a couple of weeks ago Neil Burley was the artist focus and I created a nice tile but completely forgot to incorporate anything by Mr. Burley. I'd like to say that I am trying to make it up to him this week by including Decostar, but honestly, I didn't realize I had picked one of his patterns until it was already completed. Happy coincidence!
Droplets doesn't look like it would be a New To Me pattern because we've all done lots of paisley-like drawings so many times. But my paisleys always looked like garbage until I saw Suzanne M's step outs. So the technique was new to me and I think I've finally got the hang of it. I should be seeing a big improvement in my next Mooka's.
The nod to Sandy Hunter is right in the middle of the largest Decostar. It's a Corkin. I was going to add several more variations of Corkin scattered on the page, but I didn't leave myself enough room. Check out Hunter's page at http://tanglebucket.blogspot.com/p/patterns.html. She's responsible for so many of my favorites, like Cruffle, Lola and several others. She also has a very amusing writing style on her blog that I enjoy.
Thanks Suzy Mosh for the great challenge. Learn more and join in here.
