This week's diva challenge was to use Amphora by Lily Moon. I added C-Scape by Sue Olsen. Learn more about the Diva Challenge here.
This week the Diva challenged us to tangle a Duotangle -- using only Marasu and Molygon - both Zentangle originals. To learn more about the Diva's weekly challenges, visit here.
Valentangle -- simple challenge - create a Valentine's day themed piece. I used Heartfully by Helen Williams, Hamail by Tina Hunziker, Caught by Christine Reyes, and Bannah by Sandy Steen Bartholomew. Check out Diva Challenbes here.
Hamadox by Diana Schreur CZT looks cool in white on black. Visit the I AM THE DIVA Blogspot for more on this challenge.
Diva challenge 239, Munchin Play was just what I needed -- nothing too taxing. My brain needs a break this week. I started with String 177 and added Bales by Sandy Bartholomew and Blooms by Suzanne McNeil.
Learn more and see other artists' tiles here. Running late with this challenge. I tried out Beate Winkler's Tri-bee when the Diva posted it as her UMT (use my tangle) challenge that she does once monthly. It looked awful, so I put it aside. I tried again on Friday and it looked just fine. So I committed it to a tile and decided I'd color it. Well, coloring this bad boy took up all my available time this weekend. Just finished it this morning in time to go to work and just in time to look at the Diva's next challenge...whew.
Thanks for introducing this one to us Diva and thanks for discovering it Beate. I'll definitely be using this one. Learn more at http://iamthedivaczt.blogspot.com/ The Diva is having a guest blogger one time a month and this month it is Charlotte Carpentier. Charlotte says "Find something to use for a stencil, gather your dye and spray, sponge, Q-Tip, etc. and make yourself a string. Revel in the discovery that different natural dyes, like wine or hibiscus tea, will look different on different papers. Then tangle them. You can even stay inside the lines if you like or go completely outside!"
I've been wanting to buy tan tiles, but haven't. And I've been wanting to do Balo in the same way Hsin-Ya Hsu did in her step out on this pattern (which was on a tan tile). After I learn a pattern, I don't usually replicate patterns as shown. But Hsin-Ya Hsu's example was so pretty. This challenge inspired me to create my own tan tile so I could hopefully get the same look. I used coffee to stain my tile. It was Folger's moca swirl, so if you get real close to it, you can smell chocolate. A true multi-sensation experience! Unlike Carpentier, I am not string averse. As a matter of fact nothing stops my creativity faster than a blank tile. So I masked off certain areas of the tile to look like String 156 (tanglepatterns.com) before staining. Note to self: be careful when you pick up the glue stick. No, Elmers glue cannot be substituted for "post-it note"- type adhesive. When I went to peel away the mask, I was left with a sticky mess. I was able to rub off most of it, but not all. My microns cried out! I had to switch to a fine sharpie. Both my Micron 01 and 05 died. I can't say it was all because of the glue. They had both been skipping a bit for a while. I had been using them for 5 months for a total of 127 tiles plus some other projects. I can't complain. In addition to Balo, I used Flez by Lori Howe and Printemps (Z (r). For more details, visit the Diva Challenge website. I'm playing catch up. I've finished 2 Diva Challenges today. Last week we were challenged to tangle on something unexpected. The Diva's inspirational piece was a nice tangle on a map, using the map features as her string. I've always wanted to tangle on a piece of sheet music, but then I thought that wasn't too unexpected since I've seen it done many times by others on Pinterest postings.
Several years ago I decided I'd collect antique children's books. I abandoned that pretty quickly and have just a handful of them tucked away. But I thought some of those beautiful illustrations would be unexpected backdrops for some "tangelatin'." As it turned out, none of my books had anything that lent itself to further embellishments, so I turned to Google Images and found this little cutey -- a Valentine postcard drawn by Mabel Lucie Attwell. I was going to add additional hearts, but after I finished the LaBel, I thought it looked just perfect. |
