Joey's weekly challenge is another of her monotangle challenges. We're up to the letter F. Joey chose Florez. I tried several variations but I just didn't like anything as well as the "original." So I stuck with it and used some of the "petals" in a border.

Joey's Alphabet Monotangle theme continues over at her Joey's Weekly Challenge blog. This week is an E pattern and she chose (shudder) Entwine by Sandra Kay Strait (aka molussus). I HATE Entwine. With a passion. I can never make it look neat and tidy and trying to make it look loose and flowing is just a disaster.
But I soldier on...deciding to make it another opportunity to work on my shading skills. The really good thing about it is that never once did I say "Oh, I don't want to ruin what I've done." So I could just try the next idea and the next unreservedly. I did a double row of Entwine. I worked on this horizontally, added a border of Entwine elements on the "top" and "bottom." Only at the last moment did I think to rotate it and found that I liked Entwine vertical much better. Well, thanks Joey (grrrrrr). I guess it wouldn't be called a Challenge if it didn't move us out of our comfort zone. This one pushed me waaay outside and I grudgingly admit I kinda like the result. I got some new toys this week. Prismacolor Premier Brush tip markers. I watched some youtube videos on how to use them and they were all about drawing with them rather than coloring in. I'll have to explore that some other time. For now I'm just enjoying the vibrancy of the color. I'll definitely be buying some more colors.
Joey is up to letter D with her alphabet monotangle challenges. She chose Dugwood by Anita Roby-Lavery. Can I just say that cicadas gave me such childhood trauma that I still have nightmares about the giant, noisy, unpredictable, jumpy monsters...60+ years later!!! But I used the cicada variation of Dugwood anyway with some rounding to make them even more like wings you might find on those little demons. I started with string 146 (tanglepatterns.com). Thanks again Joey. Check out Joey's challenge here. Joey (http://www.madebyjoey.blogspot.com/) has begun her series of Alphabet Monotangle challenges. This week's challenge is to do a Bunzo Monotangle. Here goes - not much to say..not much to brag about. I'm just lucky I got 1 challenge done this week. I've probably gotten about 12 hours of sleep TOTAL all week because of having so much work to do. So drawing had to take a back seat (sigh).
Joey's weekly challenge is short and sweet this week. Do a monotangle using Arukas. (get details here)
Here we go -- I think I'll call this "The Drama Green" I loved this challenge. This week on Joey's weekly tangle, we were challenged to use string 006 (see tanglepatterns.com) and patterns with names starting with J.
I actually used 3 I had never used before The large loopy pattern in the middle is Jewellep by Jenene Mathews The oval/flower-type pattern is part of Jouste by Elaine Benfatto The swirly grid is Jaxenspayds by Kate Pohalar. The last one is an old faithful -- Jonqal (z(r) ) I finished it, then decided I'd like to add some color. The blue came out much darker and duller than I'd hoped. Not sure now if I like it better b/w or w/color. Thanks again Joey! We're celebrating a long overdue Spring here in the Northern Hemisphere! So Joey challenged us to tangle a flower shaped string (either draw your own string or try #034 [it is tulip shaped] and chose the tangles that work best for you. Learn more about Joey's Weekly Challenge and join in all the fun at http://madebyjoey.blogspot.com/ I created my own template based on 144 at tanglepatterns.com. Then I filled it with
4Mom by Jane Eileen Malone Betweed (z(r) ) Birds on a Wire by Mary Kissel Bumps by Sue Jacob Munchin (z(r) ) Sand Swirl by Karry Heunring and Xeni by Jacqueline Janssen Then I embellished with other "floral" type pattenrns Beadlines by Margaret Bremner Eddyper by Mei Hua Teng Flux (Z (r) ) and Steps by Helen Williams -- by all time favorite pattern to draw!! I decided not to color but I may come back to it. It's Spring -- it screams for color. But then again, I don't have one annual planted in my flower bed yet. So maybe I won't get time to come back to this tile! Well guys - this is a double submission. Joey challenged us to use Quandary (Z(r) ) -- check it out at http://www.madebyjoey.blogspot.com/ -- and Diane & Carolien issued their alphabet challenge 6 using patterns beginning with P Q & R (http://www.dianeclancy.com/blog/2015/05/weekly-challenge-6-tangle-with-p-q-r/). It looks like a typo in their url, but trust me it's ok.
To be frank -- Quandary is so hard for me. I think I've got it and then suddenly I don't. I figured out the secret though...start strong and when you find yourself completely perplexed and you've run out of workable moves, simply stop. Pretend that was as far as you had planned to take it anyway and smile. Yeah, that's it...I had planned for all that lovely white space. That's my story and I'm sticking with it. In addition to Quandary, I used Paradox (Zentangle(r) ) and Rims by DiAnne Ferrer. I love the way it all fit in String 129 (find it at tanglepatterns.com) Joey's weekly challenge is to use string 121 (looks like a musical note - see it @ tangle patterns.com) and the pattern chimes by Beth Snodderly.
In addition to chimes I used purk, printemps, newish-to-me diva dance (all (Zentangle(r) ), baton (Carole Ohl) and another new-to-me lace pattern (Arlene Linton, I think). I should have practiced Lace a bit more. Oh, and I threw in a couple of musical notes as well. Wasn't sure how to handle Joey's challenge #57. She uploaded a photo of a sandy beach with rippled sand, pebbles, tiny little shells, even a star fish and told us to devise a string from what ever we saw on the image. I uploaded a small section of the photo to an online site that converted it to line art. I made a few adjustments to the contrast and was l left with this. Here's what I came up with a slightly beachy theme using
Rims by DiAnne Ferrer Chainging/Punzel, Meer and Squid all Zentangle(r) -- Squid has a few tentacles that have wrapped up behind Meer. Mr. E by Shawn Hayden Tearce by Pam Pinche-Wagener and Scallops by Suzanne McNeill Thanks again Joey for all you do. This really demonstrates your creativity in coming up with interesting challenges each week. |
